We have learned that water travels up the stems of plants and out to the leaves in tubes called xylem. This process is called transpiration. We wondered how long it takes for water to reach the leaves, and what these xylem might look like. Using the scientific method, we saw that coloured water took one and a half hours to travel up to the leaves of a celery stalk. The xylem were arranged in a series of bundles around the outside of the stem.
