We have just finished reading Under the Mountain, a fantasy- adventure story by New Zealand Author Maurice Gee. Set in Auckland in the 1980's, two twins become involved in an intergalactic battle between the last of two dying species, the Jones and the Wilberforces. Can they save planet Earth from being turned into mud by weapons and machines that we can't even imagine? We also watched the original TV series which was on when Mr Ricketts was in Year 7!

We have selected another adventure story by another New Zealand Author for our next book, Shadows in the Ice by Des Hunt. Set around the glaciers of Westland, Tony is stuck on a boring trip with his step-father when he learns of a suspicious death due to a hunting accident 7 years ago. After finding the body buried deep in the ice, Tony sets out to prove that this was no accident!
