COURAGE

Reflecting on the courageous actions of those who gave their lives in WW1

Our inquiry topic for the first 6 weeks of Term 2 is 'Courage'. Our goal is to investigate and define courage, and we will be learning that you do not have to be a superhero to be courageous! Key understandings for this unit are:


  • New Zealand men and women made a courageous sacrifice by serving in World War 1.
  • The early pioneers of New Zealand showed amazing courage by making a home and living in their new land.
  • Everyday people can commit acts of outstanding courage and bravery.
  • We can develop our own courage in situations that we may face in our day-to-day lives.
We brainstormed our own ideas and experiences of courage to complete a 'web of courage'. Here are some examples:
