Room 5’s Visit to Biggin Hill, Ohakea - Shared Writing
Yesterday we travelled to Biggin
Hill hangar at Ohakea Airforce Base. Our visit was to see a collection of
planes as part of our Flight Inquiry. We travelled in a convoy of cars.
As we walked into the giant
hangar, we were filled with excitement. On seeing the planes for the first
time, a murmer of WOW came from the group as we stared in awe at the incredible
aircraft before us. Mr Deere told us many interesting and exciting facts about
the aircraft, before we were allowed to explore and investigate his incredible
collection.
The highlight of the day was when
we had the privilege to sit in the pilot’s seat of the Aermacchi jet plane.
There was a surprising amount of switches; it was like being an ant inside a
computer! We wondered what would happen if we pushed the ejector seat button?!
We heard the screech and roar of air force jets as they passed overhead.
We were starving as we left to
make the trip back to school, but felt extremely fortunate to have had the
opportunity to visit this incredible collection of aircraft.
