Purerehua are taonga puoro, musical instruments used for a variety of purposes that include calling out lizards and making rain. Room 5 have been making purerehua and decorating them with maori art design. We will be sharing our learning with the community later this term where you will be able to find out more about the purerehua such as how they were traditionally made, and what our creations sound like when we give them a whirl!

ReplyDeleteI also love the Purerehua you did in March do you have instructions on how you made them on your website? I would like to make them with our four year olds.
Hi Ms M, for 4-year olds I'd recommend making PORIRTITI, a smaller version of purerehua which are easy to make. Drop me an email at cricketts@halcombe.school.nz and I'll send you some info!
